Course Content

The workshops are a balance of floral demonstrations and practical hands-on sessions, offering you the opportunity to create your own flower arrangements, which you can then take home.

Courses run by an award-winning Edinburgh florist, Jackie Thomas. Participants learn the essence of buying, arranging, and caring for flowers. Under expert tuition you will design and create your own arrangements to take home.

The Tutor will explain how to get the best out of your flowers, using both traditional techniques and modern arrangements.

Botany

Running a florist business

Day 2: Wiring and taping techniques for various varieties of flowers and foliage
Making basic corsages and buttonholes

Day 3: Hand-tied bouquets

Flat-packed bouquets

Ribbons

Funeral arrangements and dealing with bereaved and undertakers

Day 4: Wedding flowers

Making bouquets for brides and bridesmaids, corsages and buttonholes

Church flower arrangements (principles and practicalities to consider)

Day 5: Making interesting / different arrangements

Vase arrangements

Displaying your skills to maximum effect.

All flowers and materials are provided.

One Day Course Content

• Wedding Flower Workshop
  The “Do’s and Don’ts”
  Expert advice to help the bride-to-be or those close to her to create and plan the wedding flowers. The day not only covers what makes successful bouquets, corsages and buttonholes, but also the flowers for the church and the reception. Covering the choice of flowers and also the practicalities and costs involved. And, go home with the buttonhole, corsage and table arrangment you have made over the course of the day.
